Grandma Flora's Bannock Recipe

bannock

This is a recipe taken from my Grandma's recipe book.
Remember the secret ingredient is love!

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl add all dry ingredients and whisk to incorporate the baking powder and salt
  2. Make a well (hole with majority of dry ingredients to sides of the bowl)
  3. Melt lard in microwave
  4. In a smaller bowl whisk egg into water and milk just until it is mixed
  5. Slowly add the cooled lard to the water/milk
  6. Slowly add the liquid mixture into the well of the flour. Slowly incorporate more and more flour into the well. Keep adding the liquid. Don't over work it. Blend it together. It is sticky to the touch. Less touching the better.
  7. Place it onto a parchment lined baking tray. Gently form into a circle. May need a little flour on hands to prevent sticking.
  8. Poke all over with a fork
  9. Bake at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes. Rest and lightly brush butter on top

Baker's Notes: Add raisins or dry cranberries. Can add 2 tablespoons of sugar to dry ingredients if you want a sweeter version. Can omit the milk and use water for calorie-wise version.
